Lisbon Docs 2009

Calling all Documentary Makers - Lisbon Docs 2009 is calling for proposals

Lisbon Docs is a documentary pitching session consisting of:
- a pitching session and workshop
- screenings of new films
- master classes on international aspects of documentary making



The workshop takes place on October 20-22. In the intense working atmosphere of the pitching workshop, 21 documentary projects are discussed, developed and turned upside down by colleagues and a tutor team of six internationally experienced professionals. Then on October 23 and 24 all projects are pitched to a panel of 10-12 Commissioning Editors from leading international co-production TV-channels.

Durban Wild Talk Africa Film Festival

Tomorrow is the early bird deadline for Wild Talk Africa, the international film festival and conference for the global wildlife, travel and cultural filmmaking industry. The 2009 Festival will run from 19 – 23 April 2009, at the ICC Durban in South Africa and offers a forum for networking, debating and negotiating with commissioning editors, distributors and producers.

With the support of the global wildlife, travel and cultural community, the second Durban Wild Talk Africa Festival, held in August 2007, attracted 480 delegates over the 4 day Festival with representation from 22 countries.

Time of the Writer Festival

The 12th Edition of the Time of the Writer has announced its programme and the key participants for the Durban-based Festival next month.

With a line-up of approximately 20 new and established writers, predominantly from South Africa and elsewhere on the African continent, the Time of the Writer festival provides a stimulating platform for dialogue and exchange between writers. It's therefore an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to gain insight into different kinds of creative processes and perspectives that writers undertake - which may in turn, assist in the creation of even better Durban stories.



Tickets are R25 for the evening sessions, R10 for students, and can be purchased through Computicket or at the door one hour before the event. Workshops and seminars are free. TALENT CAMPUS DURBAN

The 30th Durban International Film Festival (22 July - 2 August 2009) has announced the 2nd edition of the extremely successful Talent Campus Durban from 24 - 28 July 2009.

Talent Campus is an intensive 5-day programme of workshops and seminars delivered by film professionals to enhance both theoretical and practical approaches to filmmaking. The 2nd Talent Campus Durban theme Roots and Shoots: Creating a New African Cinema will focus activities towards the development of new partnerships between African filmmakers.



Talent Campus Durban invites filmmakers from Africa to apply to participate in these workshops and seminars, which take place in Durban, South Africa, over five days. In addition to specific activities offered by the Campus, the selected talents will have the opportunity to attend films and events at the 30th Durban International Film Festival.

Moves09 Africa Festival

From the NFVF website, moves09 Africa is accepting submissions for features, shorts and documentaries with a special focus on movement, choreography and storytelling through dance made in Africa, from 2005 to 2009 only. They may be of any length, any style of dance, but they must tell a story with a beginning, middle and end. There is no charge for entries.

Based in the north-west of the United Kingdom, moves is the largest exhibition platform in the UK for screen-based work exploring ‘choreographed movement’ in the form of dance films, interactive installations, animation and experimental shorts at international level. The festival presents work in usual and unusual screening contexts: from cinemas to bars, from the public BBC Big Screens to Lightboxes in tramway stations. It's a great opportunity for those of you with existing footage of Zulu Culture in action......

Fespaco

The Panafrican Film and TV Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) is the largest African film festival across the continent. The next edition will take place from 28 February to 7 March 2009 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

KZN African Film Festival

KZN African Film Festival, previously known as KwaMashu African Film Festival, is an event aimed at developing the film industry in the city of Durban and the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Featuring films made and produced in South Africa like Jerusalema, Nothing But The Truth and KwaMashu still my home. There will also be training workshops run by film makers, both local and international.
